Mary Tillman, mother of the late Pat Tillman, has expressed her disapproval of ESPN's decision to award Prince Harry the Pat Tillman Award at the ESPYs. In an interview with the Daily Mail, she voiced her surprise and disappointment, questioning why ESPN would choose someone she views as controversial and divisive.

Mary Tillman believes there are more deserving recipients for the prestigious award, individuals who embody her son's legacy without the global platform of the Duke of Sussex. She confirmed that ESPN did not consult her regarding the decision, which is evident from her strong criticism.

The Pat Tillman Award for Service is presented annually at ESPN's award show to honor individuals who have served others in a manner that reflects Pat Tillman's spirit. Last year, the award was given to the Buffalo Bills training staff for their lifesaving efforts when Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field.

Although Prince Harry has notable military connections—having served two tours in Afghanistan and founding the Invictus Games for injured veterans—Mary Tillman remains unimpressed with his achievements.

Her sentiments are shared by others, including ESPN commentator Pat McAfee, who criticized the decision on his show, suggesting that ESPN is trying to provoke controversy.

Attempts to get a comment from Prince Harry's Archewell Foundation have so far been unsuccessful.
