Rihanna has no business asking anyone about an album when we’re all still waiting on hers — but how cool is it that the Bad Gal herself is eagerly awaiting GloRilla’s next release?
After posting an Instagram video on Friday (June 28) of herself rapping along to Big Glo’s “TGIF,” the Fenty mogul direct messaged the VIBE July 2024 cover star, “hypocritically” inquiring about her next project. “You got all summer sis! I know dis wild hypothetical, but when the album drop?” Rihanna asked in a screenshot shared by Glo.
However, Rih’s DM sparked more interest in the long-awaited R9 than in Glo’s debut album.

In June, Rihanna teased fans about her ninth studio album by wearing a T-shirt that read: “I’m Retired. This Is As Dressed Up As I Get.” Though it seemed like a casual fashion choice, it led social media users to speculate about her intentions. Rihanna later clarified to Extra that it was just a fashion statement, explaining, “They didn’t read the second line.
I’m not retired, I’m just retired from dressing up — it’s a lot of effort.” The shirt is from Peacock Papers, a brand known for its catchy slogans.

Furthermore, the 36-year-old told Entertainment Tonight that she’s “starting over” with her music. “I don’t want to neglect the songs that I have, so I actually want to go back and listen to stuff with new ears, with my new perspective and then see what applies and what I’m still in love with,” she said. She added, “I think that music, for me, is a new discovery.
I’m rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I kinda put all that stuff aside and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio. I’m gonna start. Give me a second!”
As for GloRilla, her viral summer anthem “TGIF” currently sits at No. 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her project, Ehhthang Ehhthang, reached No. 4 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 18 on the Billboard 200. Most recently, she performed “TGIF” and her hit single “Yeah Glo!” at the 2024 BET Awards and was nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist.
