Having made his WWE TV debut in 2002, Cena quickly became a cornerstone of the wrestling organization, headlining WrestleMania five times. Beyond wrestling, he has also established himself as a successful actor, with notable roles in The Suicide Squad, Fast & Furious 9, Argylle, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Since 2018, Cena has performed part-time in WWE to focus on his acting career. He is also recognized as the “all-time most requested celebrity wish granter” for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, having granted over 650 wishes.
Cena chose to announce his retirement in Canada to honor the consistent support of Canadian fans, regardless of the sport's popularity. He detailed his farewell tour, highlighting that the 2025 Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania will mark his final appearances in those events.
Following his announcement, the crowd erupted into a chant of “Thank you, Cena,” to which he responded with heartfelt thanks. During a subsequent press conference, Cena outlined his send-off tour, which will run from January to December 2025, emphasizing that WWE remains his “home” and that he plans to stay involved in the sport by sharing his wisdom.
Explaining the reason for his retirement, Cena admitted he was “physically at [his] end” and assured fans there would be no surprise returns. However, he looks forward to being a member of the extended WWE family for years to come. Cena revealed that the timing of his farewell tour was decided in consultation with WWE, considering the sport's recent surge in popularity.
“There were many before me, there will be many after. I guess what I have left to do is say my thank yous before that chapter closes,” Cena concluded.
