Entrepreneur Sarah Kabu, widely recognized for her once high-profile marriage to Simon Kabu, has opened up about the emotional impact of their ongoing divorce on both herself and her children. Speaking at an event for her Virtuous Women Foundation, Sarah shared deeply personal insights about her journey of transformation, revealing that she has dropped her husband’s surname and embraced the name “Mtalii.”
The new name, she revealed, holds special significance, as it was inspired by her son. Fighting back tears, Sarah expressed how her children have been navigating the changes in their lives. “After relocating to our new home, I told my son he would be the man of the house. I was amazed by how he took it. As a child, he observes and learns to navigate the family changes,” she said. Her speech was briefly interrupted as she became overwhelmed with emotion, but supportive attendees applauded to encourage her, with some stepping in to comfort her. Simon Kabu described the woman in the video as a nanny, but the incident exposed cracks in their marriage.
While the journey has been challenging, Sarah has found strength in her children and her rebranding as Sarah Mtalii. She hopes to inspire others through her story, particularly women facing similar struggles. “Children have a way of staying inspired even in the most challenging circumstances,” she remarked, her voice breaking with emotion.
