Nyandarua Senator John Methu has finally shaved his overgrown hair and beard after weeks of online debate and mixed reactions from Kenyans. The young politician had adopted a rugged appearance, allowing his hair and facial hair to grow out, which some speculated was a tribute to the Mau Mau freedom fighters.

However, his look sparked heated discussions, with some Kenyans praising his boldness while others criticized it as unkempt.

Methu, a vocal supporter of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, seemed to enjoy his “shaggy period” despite the backlash. While some admired his unconventional approach, others, including fellow politicians like MP Peter Kaluma, suggested he should be forcibly shaved. Concerns also arose over his well-being, with some questioning whether his appearance reflected a deeper personal or health issue.

Eventually, the senator decided to bow to the pressure. On Monday, March 17, he shared a selfie on his X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing a fresh, clean-shaven look. The photo showed him inside his car, looking sweaty, sparking speculation that he had either come from the gym or a sports activity.

Accompanying the picture was a caption that read, "Nyi si wazuri by the way, imebidi," loosely translating to "You people are not kind, I had no choice." This hinted that the intense online discussions and criticism had finally influenced his decision.

While some netizens were pleased with his new look, others found humor in the transformation, proving once again that in the court of public opinion, there is never a shortage of conversation.
