US R&B star Chris Brown has been formally charged with grievous bodily harm with intent in connection to an alleged assault at a central London nightclub on 19 February 2023, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.
The 36-year-old singer was arrested in the early hours of Thursday at a Manchester hotel. He is currently in police custody and is set to appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Adele Kelly, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, stated: “We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm under section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.” She stressed that the criminal case is ongoing and Brown is entitled to a fair trial.
According to The Sun, Brown landed in the UK on Wednesday afternoon, arriving at Manchester Airport via private jet. He is currently on tour and scheduled to perform across various UK venues throughout June and July.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the alleged incident, including the identity of the victim. The case remains under investigation as it proceeds through the legal system.
