The embattled Kikuyu Mugithi singer Lawrence Njuguna famously known as DJ Fatxo has won the Mugithi Artist of the year e360 award.
The musician requested his followers to vote for him when he was nominated for the award in February.
The E360 Awards aim to promote Kenyan content and honour Kenyan artists from all backgrounds.
"The recent debate on social media has been widely focused of promoting Kenyan content which largely targets on Kenyan Music Industry. Many artistes have complained of not getting a platform to showcase their talent. DJ Fatxo's victory comes at a time when he is embroiled in controversy over the death of interior designer Jeff Mwathi, 23, who passed away after falling from the DJ's apartment on the 10th floor.
After spending the day and night with the DJ, Jeff Mwathi passed away. He had informed his mother through voicemail that he was meeting Fatxo for business.
Later, they visited other clubs before going back to Fatxo's flat at about three in the morning.
DJ Fatxo and two other witnesses claimed that Mwathi jumped from the 10th floor to the hard concrete ground.
The DCI took over the investigations and established that Jeff did not take his own life. On March 26, 2023, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that plans are underway to exhume the body of Jeff Mwathi for further investigations.
