On March 3, 2023, comedian Eric Omondi was arrested while protesting the high cost of living in Nairobi's Central Business District.
Before they could catch up with him and arrest him at about noon, police had to fire a tear gas canister into a gathering that was watching him speak. Anti-riot police showed up while Omondi was addressing the gathering outside Bank of India, where he had amassed a crowd along Kenyatta Avenue.
He was moaning about the exorbitant expense of living while climbing an improvised stand and wearing a thick rope around his neck.

As others pursued him, police arrived and lobed a tear gas canister. He was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station before his scheduled arraignment.
According to Nairobi police chief Adamson Bungei, the meeting was illegal, thus their move.
Omondi had previously advocated for decreased living expenses. He had previously spearheaded demonstrations in front of Parliament.
He criticized Azimo leader Mr. Raila Odinga for interacting with the government at a time when living expenses were still high, even though he respected him.
Eric threatened to be ready to die fighting for the current generation and the generation to come. Eric stated that even if he died, the generation after him will be told of a young man who fought for their rights.
The comedy game of Eric Omondi is drastically changing into a serious activism and political career. The renowned comedian is set to vie for the presidency in 2037!
According to the comedian, a new generation of Kenyan leaders is needed in Kenya. He also criticized long-standing politicians who he claim have little contribution.
If Eric decides to enter politics, he will be the most recent in a long list of comedians who have made it to politics. John Kiarie and Jalang'o are current members of parliament, as well as Walter Mong'are alias Nyambane.
Eric joins a group of prominent artists who have stated their ambition to run for the presidency, including Prof. Hamo and singer Bahati.
