James Corden's tenure as host of The Late Late Show ends after eight years and many Emmy nominations.
The English host and actor announced his resignation from the show, which featured popular segments like "Carpool Karaoke," in April. He later revealed that the move was motivated by a desire to spend more time with his family.
He stated that it would be an adventure, a journey, and he never saw it as his ultimate goal. On Thursday night, the 44-year-old comedian became upset as he prepared to leave the seat that made him famous. Corden's parents were in the audience for the prime-time show, which featured A-list stars Harry Styles, Adele, and Will Ferrell, and a surprise clip greeting from President Joe Biden.
While many were surprised by his decision to leave the show during its successful run on US late-night television, Corden revealed that "one positive" of leaving the show is that he "may finally get a good night's sleep."
In his sad parting speech, the father-of-three discussed his journey as the show's host. Corden urged his audience to remember what the USA represents to the rest of the world. It has always been a source of hope and joy in his life. And, indeed, it has many defects adding that other countries and people have faults too.
He added that people are all more alike than different," Corden concluded. So many individuals attempt to ignite those disparities and must do their best to look for the light and joy. If they do, it's public. That has always been the focus of this show.
He called his trip to America a considerable leap and praised CBS for taking a "life-changing" chance on him.
Corden concluded his final performance with a piano ballad while a video montage of his best moments on the show played.
"Part of me thinks why not stay here forever, but deep in my heart I just know," he sang. "No more shows to be showing, it's time I was going. It's time. Thanks for watching, that's our show."
