Waihiga Mwaura, an award-winning Citizen TV journalist, is leaving Royal Television Services after 14 years to begin working for the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Mwaura is the Royal Media Services' Managing Editor, Multimedia and has hosted Citizen TV's popular primetime political news program, News Night, on Tuesdays.

On Tuesday, he announced his departure.

"My time at Royal Media Services (Citizen TV) has come to an end after 14 incredible years." My next stop is @BBCNews, specifically @BBCAfrica and Focus on Africa. "I'll share more details soon, but in the meantime, catch my final episode of #Newsnight tonight at 9pm," he tweeted.



The renowned journalist joined Citizen TV in 2009 as a sports anchor and has since reinvented himself, becoming a news anchor in January 2017.

He was appointed Managing Editor, Multimedia, in December 2021, after leading the special projects department as editor since October 2020.

Throughout his illustrious broadcasting career, he received numerous honours, including the BBC Komla Dumor Award in 2018 and the CNN MultiChoice Award in 2012.

Mwaura won the inaugural Mo Amin Award for investigating doping in Kenya.



He was honoured as one of the Top 25 Men in Digital by SOMA last year for advocating Royal Media Services' digital transformation journey and offering innovative products under Citizen Digital to enhance audience reach, optimize user experiences, and generate income.

The journalist's professional interests include governance, global politics, public policy, international relations, and youth employment.
