Fetty Wap was sentenced to six years in prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty in federal court in New York to engaging in a large-scale cocaine distribution operation.
William Maxwell, the "Trap Queen" rapper, admitted supplying 25 kilograms (55 pounds) of cocaine. Prosecutors claimed he was a member of a ring that distributed heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine on Long Island and in New Jersey between June 2019 and June 2020.
Maxwell apologized before U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert during a sentencing hearing in Central Islip, New York. He stated that he was motivated to provide for his family after his earnings from live concerts dried up during the pandemic.

"I've always wanted to do the right thing for my family and loved ones," Maxwell said in front of a full gallery of friends, family, and business acquaintances.
Elizabeth Macedonio, Maxwell's lawyer, implored Seybert to assess her client not by his songs, which she admitted glamorized drugs and violence, but by many testimonials to his merits as a father and family guy.
According to prosecutor Christopher Caffarone, Maxwell was involved in a severe criminal conspiracy and was accused of threatening another man with a revolver while on bail.
Prosecutors wanted a sentence of up to nine years in prison, while Maxwell requested a five-year minimum.
Seybert believes a harsh punishment is warranted, given the gravity of Maxwell's offences.
