Phelix Odiwuor, also known as Jalang'o, a Langa'ta Member of Parliament (MP), has said that his radio profession brought in more money than his current position in politics.
The affable MP highlighted his dedication to making a difference by explaining that a sizeable percentage of his pay is earmarked for community initiatives.
Jalang'o, who is well-known for his active participation in the media, highlighted that the money he made while working as a radio host belongs to him alone.
However, he advised prospective politicians to avoid running for office purely for financial gain, claiming that leadership requires those who place duty above self-interest.

"I was paid more as a journalist than I am today as an MP. Despite claims to the contrary, MPs actually receive only Ksh 820,000 after taxes. I was paid around half of what I was paid as a presenter," Jalang'o frankly admitted in an NTV interview.
The gifted MP emphasized the divergent standards for political leaders and media.
He said that as a journalist, Kenyans looked to him to use media outlets to voice their issues. As an MP, though, his people look to him to actively address and fix their difficulties.
Jalang'o's journey from the media to politics undoubtedly came with its share of difficulties. He is still dedicated to serving the public, albeit with restrictions set by his constituents.
He highlighted during the conversation that his commitment to the people is still unwavering. Jalang'o allegedly earned Ksh 1.2 million per month at his previous employment on Kiss FM.
In 2004, he began his radio career at Kiss FM, and in 2012, he switched to Radio Maisha. After that, he worked for Hot 96 FM till he transferred to Milele FM in 2018.
Jalang'o, however, went back to his radio origins in July 2020 and co-hosted the morning program at Kiss FM with Kamene Goro. In 2022, Jalang'o left Kiss FM to focus on campaigning for the Lang'ata seat.
