Ringtone Apoko, a gospel musician who is currently being held on allegations of causing unrest in Nairobi's Karen estate, is dealing with serious difficulties. Adding to his woes, the situation has taken a new twist as he now faces charges of violence related to a dispute over a lavish Karen property. The singer's troubles seem to be mounting, and the legal proceedings are likely to have a significant impact on his personal and professional life.
Following the previous accusations, Ringtone Apoko now faces additional charges of stealing a South Sudanese family's property in Karen Estate. The Matips family firmly maintains that they are the rightful owners of the land, which is officially registered under their father's name. In a demand letter issued by their attorney, Musyoki Kimathi, the family asserts their legal claim to the property and seeks resolution for the alleged wrongful actions. The situation has become increasingly complex and is likely to have serious legal ramifications for the gospel singer. The three clients accuse Ringtone of illegally occupying, destroying, and depriving them of use of their property in a letter from Kimanthi Advocates dated Wednesday, July 26.
"Our clients are the legal and beneficial owners of the above-mentioned property which is currently registered under the name of their deceased father, having bought the same form one Judith Guserwa sometime in 2010," read the letter. Sudanese family accuses Ringtone of property theft. According to the complainants, upon the death of their father they moved to South Sudan for his burial and remained there for a while due to exigencies of life.
They claim that they had left a caretaker to tend to the Karen home together with other movables and assets left at the property's compound. The Matips indicated that they continued to send money for maintenance and upkeep of their property, oblivious that it had been taken over by a stranger whom they later established was Apoko. "It was until sometime in 2016 when one of them, Kongkong Matip, visited Nairobi and went to the property only to be denied access. It is then that it was discovered that you, by means only known to yourself, had gained entry in to the property, and started passing off as the owner.

Ringtone is battling for high-end vehicles in Karen's home. They claimed to have left a completely equipped house and two parked cars—a Toyota VX and a BMW—behind when they went for South Sudan. According to the demand letter sent to Ringtone, the latter was successful in preventing the complainants from entering their property for seven years before they were eventually able to gain admission and regain possession on July 21, 2023, with the assistance of police officials.
