The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) employee, Daniel Munywoki Wambua, has petitioned the court to release the Kes 21 million held in his frozen bank account by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Appearing before Milimani Law Court on Wednesday, Wambua emphasized his urgent need for the funds to cover the dowry for his fiancée, with the ceremony scheduled for October 20, 2023.
“We ask the court to vacate the preservation Orders that were granted and the respondents pay dowry on Mashujaa Day and the wife gets a husband without the EACC disturbances,” Wambua said through his lawyer.
The Commission is currently investigating Wambua, a road agency accountant, facing corruption and money laundering allegations.
In refuting the claims, Wambua informed the court that the disputed funds were collectively contributed by his friends, totaling 900 through the social media platform WhatsApp.

“The accounts were to be closed after four months upon completion of the dowry payment. These accounts had people contributing through Mpesa by forming a WhatsApp group as attached of over 900 people,” Wambua said.
While the EACC alleges that the money was acquired through fraud, citing Wambua’s supposed Kes 35,000 monthly salary, Wambua contested this assertion, clarifying that his actual salary amounts to Kes 170,000.
Further, he defended the legitimacy of his wealth, pointing out that he possesses a fixed account containing Kes 5 million.
During its initial investigations, the EACC revealed that Wambua had accumulated the illicit funds for four years.
