Fire has destroyed property worth millions of shillings in Ndia, Kirinyaga County.
Ndia sub-county police commander Moses Koskei said the fire broke out at a home in the Thumaita area along the Thumaita-Kagio road.
According to Citizen Digital, the locals had a hard time putting out the inferno.
"One of us was forced to pump water from a nearby river to help put out the fire before the county fire engines arrived," a resident, Patrick Wachira, said.
At the same time, the owner of the house, Peter Muthee, said that no one was in the building at the time.

"This is such a huge setback given that this is where my family calls home," a devastated Muthee said.
He added that most of his household items were reduced to ashes, save for a cooker which was partially burnt.
"All his documents, clothes, his children's books and many other items have been destroyed by the fire," Simon Waweru lamented.
The county fire brigade team said they suspect the fire started in the kitchen before spreading to other rooms.
Police have launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire.
