On Monday, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) logistics helicopter crashed in Buna, Wajir North, where it flew to deliver relief supplies to residents affected by floods.

According to footage circulating online, the chopper crashed moments after takeoff.

Details on the number of those on board were unavailable, and KDF is yet to release a statement on the accident.

The incident, confirmed by local leaders, marked the third KDF chopper in under five months.

In September, the KDF established a Board of Inquiry to look into the deadly nighttime crash of a surveillance helicopter in Lamu.

The Kenya Air Force Huey helicopter crashed while on night patrol in the seaside town that had seen a spike in terrorist attacks in recent weeks, according to a statement released at the time by the Department of Defence.

The DoD sent its sympathies to the families of the service people who perished in the incident, even though the government did not reveal the precise number of victims.

“The crew and other military personnel onboard were part of an air surveillance squadron intensifying day and night patrols and surveillance for the on-going Operation Amani Boni,” KDF said.
