Parents of a missing three-year-old are relieved after their son was found alone in the freezing night, with only a blanket to keep him warm.
Lisa Greenberg, Public Information Specialist at Cape Coral Police Department, said that Parents said that the child wandered off late last night and that they were really concerned, adding to the fact that the child was only in a diaper. It was a chilly night, and this child does have some developmental disabilities.
Cape Coral police discovered the child hiding under a blanket at a construction site.
Officers were called to a home near the end of Northwest 13th Street in Cape Coral on Thursday night. They began their search when they came upon a nearby property with security cameras that captured video of the little child going around the house. You then watched him stroll away in this direction, and it was only a matter of time before he was discovered on another home's lanai.
Officers responded around 11:45 p.m. in the 2400 block of NW 13th Street in Cape Coral and checked the surveillance camera that showed the boy.
“And they were able to see that just a few minutes after the child had gone missing. That child was actually in the front yard of that home, they could see him playing he was playing with a toy. Then they saw him wander to the backyard and walk off,” Greenberg said.
In the dark of night, telling officers where he went, the parents fretted beyond words for half an hour, but then one constable located their child.
He was wrapped in a blanket on the lanai, only a street from his house. He was unharmed, and he was reunited with his parents.
Cape Coral PD public affairs officer Mercedes Phillips says their family is an ideal candidate for Project Lifesaver. Cape Coral authorities say this was not an instance of parental neglect.
The parents were at home, watching their child, and they did the proper thing. When they couldn't find him, they dialed 911.
