DCI officers in Kakamega County have arrested an 18-year-old man at the Khwisero police station on suspicion of murdering a 52-year-old woman.
Mary Atanda's mangled body was discovered at her home in Eshakhondo village, Khwisero, in October, and no arrests had been made.
However, the area OCPD, Johnston Kabusia, said the suspect was caught on Thursday when the victim's phone was tracked and found in his possession in the adjacent Navakholo region.

When the suspect was apprehended, he took police to a pit latrine where the victim's phone had been wrapped in a cloth and stashed in a corner.
The guy told investigators that he bought the phone from a third party but couldn't explain why it was stashed in a pit toilet.
"Why couldn't he say where he bought the phone?" said the victim's mother, Esther Atanda. We seek justice. My kid was brutally murdered. "Her body was discovered with deep cuts."
The suspect will be held until the inquiry is completed.
