Controversial Mumias East Parliament member Peter Salasya indicated his intention to run for governor in the 2027 general election.

The MP took to social media on Sunday to announce that his bold decision had been made final and that he would be on the ballot in the upcoming elections.

"It's now official I will be vying for Governor," he said in a post.

Salasya won a parliamentary seat in the 2022 General Election for the Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K),

The first-time MP, however, has been embroiled in several incidents, with his public conduct drawing criticism.

He is currently out on bail awaiting his court date after he slapped an MCA during a burial ceremony in Kakamega.

In his defense, the MP apologized to the people who elected him but accused the MCA of threatening him several times.

The MP accused the MCA of having a knife and wanted to attack him and was forced to defend himself. He asked Kenyans to stop criticizing him and find the root cause of the problem because he is very peaceful.

In a previous tweet on X, Salaysia had denied assaulting anyone and made fun of the situation only to make a U-turn and apologize for his actions, promising to be a good role model for his constituents.
