An accident in the Mahiga Meeru district along the Nyahururu-Nyeri road left five people dead and several others injured.
The fatalities were a driver and women from St. Peters Gaitega, Cathedral Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Murang'a, who were heading home after attending a National Prayer Meeting at Subukia's Marian Shrine on Friday evening.
Three survivors were brought to Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital, where they were treated; two were discharged, and one was admitted with head injuries; the bodies of five who died on the spot were taken to the Nyahururu County Hospital Mortuary.
Those rescued were transported to other hospitals in Nyeri County.
