Swaleh Mdoe, Swahili news anchor for Citizen TV was suspended for missing the 1:00 pm bulletin on Tuesday, January 23. Mr. Mdoe has been absent from on-air appearances for over three weeks.
Reports suggest that the TV veteran was undergoing a medical check-up on the day he was scheduled to present the daytime news bulletin. However, he failed to inform his supervisor about his absence, prompting the management to take the drastic decision of suspending him.
When he returned to work the next day, he was summoned by his bosses who barred him from appearing on air indefinitely.
It's said that Mdoe has been reporting to work every day as usual since the verbal suspension was issued.
The seasoned news anchor hosts the Monday prime-time Swahili bulletin at 7:00 pm as well as the 1:00 pm bulletins on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Swaleh's Career
Commencing his career in 1991, he gained experience in both print and electronic media. His journey included roles at Kenya Times, Standard Newspapers, The Message, Weekly Mail, BBC, Nation TV, and KTN.
Between 1999 and 2001, he served as a presenter at NTV before transitioning to KTN, where he worked as a news anchor and supervised the Kiswahili team from 2001 to 2006.
Subsequently, he joined Citizen TV in March 2007, becoming a consistent presence on Kenyan screens.
Throughout his career, Mdoe has garnered numerous awards, including Journalist of the Year by the Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) and News Anchor of the Year (Kiswahili) in both 2003 and 2004.
