Five teenagers have been admitted to a Nakuru hospital after being struck by lightning at a house where they were taking refuge from the heavy rains.
The victims' mother, Emily Cheruiot, said that she had ordered one of the adolescents to put down his phone and warned him of the potential hazards.
"Lightning struck at 6.30pm following heavy rains and it struck the youths whom we were together in the same room. When it struck, all of them fell to the ground and started crawling using their stomach," said Cheruiot who escaped unharmed.
According to James Langat, one of the villagers, the casualties were sent to Keringet Nursing Home and Olenguruone sub-county hospitals for medical care right away.
