An Early Childhood Education (ECDE) student in Kaloleni, Kilifi County, has died after being hit by a flying iron sheet.
According to witnesses, the iron sheet was from the roof of Gogo Raruhe mosque and wounded six other children.
Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung'aro shared the awful news with the audience during a Kaunti Mashinani rally in Chumani, Matsangoni Ward.
Governor Mung'aro has ordered all ECDE facilities to close down for a week to monitor the strong wind conditions.
Mung'aro stated that the severe wind on Tuesday caused various damages, including tree falls and road closures in Takaungu. Electrical poles also toppled, jeopardizing people's lives.
He instructed his disaster team to prepare and aid impacted families. They will also guarantee that people avoid trees, decrepit buildings, and infrastructure that might risk their safety.
Ruth Masha, the Kilifi County Executive in charge of Gender and Disaster Management, advised fishermen to avoid the ocean due to severe winds.
Masha encouraged residents to phone the county emergency number 1535 in case of an emergency.
