A police officer has died after being run over by a police vehicle while on duty at Cheptais Junction in Bungoma County.

According to a police report, the event occurred when Fredrick Juma from the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) in Bungoma West stopped a trailer for a regular check.

The trailer, driven by Ali Abdullahi Bunyori, was going to Chwele from Sirisia.

Juma was interrogating the driver when he was hit by a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to Sirisia Police Station traveling in the other way.

Gideon Magut, driving the Land Cruiser, maneuvered and avoided the stationary trailer parked on the side of the road.

“Due to the impact, the deceased was pushed ahead, suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot,” the police report read in part.

The deceased's body was taken to the Life Care Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem assessment.

Both cars were detained at the Chwele Police Station as an investigation into the incident began.
