Who Was Rex Kanyike Masai?
Rex Kanyike Masai was among the many protesters who took to the streets to reject the Finance Bill 2024. The young man, identified as the son of Chrispin Odawa and Gillian Munyao, was reportedly shot in Nairobi's CBD at dusk.
In response to the tragic news, numerous people expressed condolences and called for justice on social media for the young man who lost his life while exercising his constitutional right.
Social media personality Francis Gaitho posted an update on X.
"There has been a casualty. His name is Rex. He was shot by police and pronounced dead at 20:05. Let @KarimKhanQC and the @court_criminal @amnesty know that @NPSOfficial_KE @IG_NPS has authorised the use of live ammunition on innocent protestors," Gaitho wrote.
He added:
"Rex Kanyike Masai tragically lost his life today after sustaining injuries from excessive police force witnessed during the Reject Finance Bill 2024 Protests in Nairobi. He was shot at Kimathi Street. He was unarmed. Rest in Eternal Peace, Rex Kanyike Masai."
