Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah revealed that Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has formally requested Speaker Moses Wetangula to retract the Land Laws Amendment Bill (2023). This move follows significant pressure from Generation Z, who have expressed strong discontent with President William Ruto's administration and its policies.

Omtatah recognized the influence of the younger generation's activism, pondering whether this pressure would intensify or diminish after the bill's withdrawal. He emphasized the crucial role of Generation Z in confronting what they view as poor governance and harsh policies.

Referring to the Bible, Omtatah cited Isaiah 10:1-4 to emphasize his stance on unjust laws and oppressive decrees. The passage warns of woe to those who enact such laws, depriving the poor of their rights and denying justice to the oppressed. Omtatah's invocation of this scripture highlighted the moral and ethical concerns surrounding the contentious bill.

Omtatah's comments underscore the substantial influence of Generation Z on Kenya's political scene. Their relentless activism prompted the withdrawal of the contentious bill, showcasing their ability to push for fair governance. The sustainability of this momentum remains uncertain, yet their impact is unmistakable. The bill's withdrawal marks a triumph for the younger generation, who persist in advocating for a more equitable and just society.
