Police officers in Laikipia have launched an investigation into a fire that left two children dead in Kiamaina village on the outskirts of Nyahururu town.
Official reports noted that the two kids, ages two and four, were at home when their mother, Ms. Susan Muthoni, made lunch for the family when a fire broke out.
Though the source of the fire was not immediately identified, neighbors stated that it started in one of the houses containing the two children and swiftly spread to the other homes.

Robert Maina and other villagers noticed that efforts to extinguish the fire in an attempt to save the deceased were useless. They also claimed that Nyahururu firemen took too long to get to the incident scene.
Angry residents have accused the county fireman of taking too long to respond, coming hours after the fire was out.
They are now seeking the County government to construct fire engines within the estate within seven days, citing the regular fires in the region and the urgent need for one fire engine.
