Outspoken X personality Francis Gaitho has been freed on Ksh.30,000 cash bail after spending 24 hours in police custody.

Gaitho was arrested after he presented himself at the DCI offices yesterday afternoon. This is after police officers abducted veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho, claiming that they were looking for the other Gaitho.

He was charged under the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act No. 5 of 2018.

 The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) says that Gaitho is accused of knowingly disseminating false information on social media on July 15, 2024, at about 2 p.m.

He is also accused of publishing incorrect information on Jairus Onkundi Morwabe, which has caused him to be concerned about violence and probable property damage.

The case is scheduled to be discussed on August 1, 2024 for pre-trial.
