A three-judge panel is set to rule on a case where survivors of the April 2, 2015, Garissa University attack have sued the government for negligence.

The injured students and their parents are seeking compensation, arguing that the state had prior intelligence about the terror attack but failed to act.

The plaintiffs, including over 33 former students, claim they deserve compensation for psychological trauma and medical expenses incurred due to the attack. They also assert that delayed rescue operations by the state resulted in injuries and the deaths of 147 students.

In their 2019 petition, the complainants further argued that the unlawful deployment of the army during the attack led to disorganized efforts and increased fatalities. The government has countered, stating no specific, actionable intelligence regarding the attack.
