Police in Siaya County are investigating an incident where a detainee allegedly died by suicide at Ramula Police Post in Gem, Yala sub-county.
The 40-year-old suspect, Fredrick Odhiambo Ochieng, was arrested after failing to honor a court summons.
Confirming the incident, Uranga sub-location Assistant Chief Vitalis Otunga said the man died twenty minutes after his arrest.
“He was found dead twenty minutes after he was taken in. A police vehicle was set to ferry him to Yala police station.”
Further, he said Odhiambo had an active assault case at the Siaya law courts. He however went into hiding.

“His mother was then arrested in efforts to fish the suspect out of his hideout.”
Upon realizing that his mother had been locked up, the suspect’s brothers informed the police of his whereabouts.
The body of the suspect was moved to Yala sub county hospital mortuary.
