Tom Odege, the Secretary General of the Union of Kenya Civil Servants, has issued a stern warning to the government, demanding that funds be allocated for the agreed-upon salary increments for civil servants. He warned that if this is not done, workers will go on strike next month.

Odege emphasized that civil servants are expecting a salary increase, and the government is legally obligated to fulfill this commitment. He asserted that the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) does not have the authority to halt the salary increments, as the matter has already been settled in court and can only be overturned by a court ruling.

"SRC's attempt to defer a salary increment is unacceptable," Odege stated.

Odege, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Nyatike constituency, reiterated that civil servants are counting on the salary increase and will not accept any excuses from the government. He pointed out that the salary increment was included in the budget for the last financial year and, therefore, should not be associated with the Finance Bill 2024, which was withdrawn after nationwide protests.
