Uasin Gishu County's efforts to beautify the town in preparation for its city status were met with criticisms from social media users after emaciated statutes of athletes were displayed at various intersections.

On Wednesday afternoon, three sculptures of athletes, a milk fountain, and wheat and maize monuments were built at various locations across the city.

Uasin Gishu County erected the sculptures along Oginga Odinga Street to commemorate their agricultural and sporting traditions.

Pictures of the sculptures went viral on social media, with users calling out the officials for doing a pathetic job.

County officers removed the sculptures in the dead of night and transported them to an undisclosed place.
