Eight officers from the National Police Service have been suspended by acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli following the escape of Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the Kware killings, along with 12 other suspects.
Among those interdicted are the Gigiri Sub-county commander, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), and report officers, who are now in police custody after the early Tuesday morning prison break.
Masengeli, accompanied by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) chief Amin Mohamed and Kenya Police Service Deputy Inspector General Eliud Langat, described the escape as an "inside job." The top officers conducted a security operation at the station to investigate how the suspects fled.

Masengeli assured the public that the search for the escapees was ongoing and expressed confidence that they would be captured. He also mentioned that CCTV footage is being reviewed to provide investigators with more information about the incident.
Collins Jumaisi had previously made headlines after being paraded by the police, who claimed he confessed to murdering at least 42 women and disposing of their bodies in Kware between 2022 and 2024.
He allegedly admitted that his first victim was his wife, whom he reportedly strangled, dismembered, and dumped at a local site. However, Jumaisi later recanted in court, alleging that police had tortured him into confessing.
