A motorcycle taxi (boda boda) rider was killed instantly on Saturday night following a head-on collision with a matatu at Gwa Kariba along the Mwea-Embu highway in Kirinyaga County. Witnesses reported that the rider was traveling from Embu towards Mwea and attempted to overtake another vehicle, causing him to veer into the path of the oncoming matatu.
"The rider tried to overtake but ended up crashing into the matatu. There was also a traffic jam due to another accident just 500 meters away," said Loise Wawira, a local resident. Another witness, Allan Muriithi, mentioned that the deceased was not familiar to the village.
Traffic police from Wanguru quickly arrived at the scene, transporting the body to Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary. The motorcycle and matatu were taken to Wang’uru police station. Mwea-East sub-county police officer Patrick Nyaanga confirmed that no passengers in the Meru-bound matatu were injured.
