Two suspects in Kisumu County's Kondele area are in police custody after allegedly attempting to bribe detectives with Ksh.179,000 to protect a car theft suspect.

Eugene Kiprop Kipchirchir, 38, and Hillary Kiplangat Kibet, 40, reportedly offered the bribe to officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to shield Rashid Oyondi Nyanuba, a notorious car theft suspect.

According to a DCI statement released on Saturday, the suspects were caught in the act while trying to bribe officers to ignore Nyanuba's criminal activities. The two men had also claimed to have vital information regarding a fugitive involved in car theft.

Following their arrest, the suspects led authorities to a city restaurant, where the car theft suspect, Nyanuba, was found hiding inside an Isuzu double cab with the license plate KAW 092Y.

The trio is currently held at Kondele Police Station and is awaiting legal proceedings.
