The political atmosphere in the Mount Kenya region continues to heat up after Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang'wa raised concerns about the growing support for Interior CS Kithure Kindiki from Mt Kenya MPs, claiming it is part of a plot to undermine Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking at Our Lady of Sorrows Baricho Catholic Parish in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, Thang'wa suggested that some MPs aim to impeach the DP and potentially have him jailed to distribute political positions among themselves.
Thang'wa vigorously defended Gachagua, stating that the Deputy President remains the region's political leader and that those who attempt to remove him will face resistance from the people of Mt Kenya. "We elected Gachagua as our leader, and we will not let anyone harm him," he emphasized.

The senator also warned CS Kindiki to be cautious about the support he is currently receiving. Thang'wa pointed to Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, who was previously hailed as a potential leader by the same MPs, only to be sidelined later.
"They will lift you up and praise you, but in the end, you may be left apologizing, just like Ndindi Nyoro," Thang'wa cautioned.
This political tension arises as more MPs from the region rally behind Kindiki. A recent declaration saw 69 Mt Kenya MPs endorse the Interior CS as their preferred link to the executive, with 21 MPs from the Mt Kenya East region and 48 others following the 'Nyandarua declaration.
' These lawmakers argue that stalled development projects and a lack of regional resources necessitate a central leader to advocate for the area.
The rising support for Kindiki has fueled speculation about DP Gachagua’s declining regional influence.
