National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah has dismissed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's claims of a plot to impeach him, labeling the allegations as tactics to garner public sympathy.

Speaking at the burial of his family friend and former employee George Owiro in Pap Nyadiel village, Alego Usonga Constituency, Ichung’wah argued that Gachagua's statements were intended to incite the Mt. Kenya region against its Members of Parliament.

Ichung'wah accused the DP of using impeachment threats to stir up political instability for personal gain, emphasizing that no such motion exists.

"There has never been an impeachment plan against him. This narrative is a creation of those around him—a sympathy-seeking gimmick designed to incite people against MPs from the Mt. Kenya region," Ichung’wah said. He criticized Gachagua for allegedly threatening national stability by framing impeachment as threatening the country’s peace.

The Kikuyu MP reiterated that any MP can initiate an impeachment motion against high-ranking officials, including the President and Deputy President, but stressed that no such action has been proposed. "No MP has ever suggested collecting signatures for his impeachment. Only the DP has been speaking of his impeachment, possibly as a tactic to incite regional divisions," he noted.

Ichung’wah speculated that Gachagua's impeachment rhetoric might be part of a broader strategy to position himself for the 2027 presidential race. He urged Gachagua to focus on delivering on the government’s agenda rather than pursuing personal ambitions.

Ichung’wah also highlighted the importance of Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as a link between MPs and the Executive, urging the DP to advocate for national issues rather than personal grievances.
