Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies have intensified criticism of President William Ruto’s leadership, exposing a deepening rift within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Speaking during a church service in Thika on Sunday, Gachagua cautioned Ruto that failing to address internal conflicts within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) could result in losing support from the Mt. Kenya region.

Gachagua pointed out that Ruto’s past struggles as Deputy President should serve as a reminder not to repeat mistakes. He emphasized that if Ruto permits his close associates to undermine him, it will erode his credibility and diminish trust in his leadership.

"President Ruto made a promise that does not require external funding or resources. He assured Kenyans that his deputy would not face humiliation under his leadership. If he cannot uphold this simple pledge, then his reliability on other promises will be questionable," Gachagua asserted.

Gachagua and his allies also accused Raila Odinga’s ODM party of stoking divisions within Kenya Kwanza. UDA’s former Secretary General, Cleopas Malala, claimed that ODM lawmakers, including Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and Homabay Town MP Peter Kaluma, will table an impeachment motion against Gachagua in Parliament next week.

During the service, speakers like Malala, Gathoni wa Muchomba, Karungo Thangwa, and Mejjadonk suggested that if the impeachment motion proceeds, it would imply President Ruto’s approval.

Gachagua further warned that pursuing the impeachment could cost Ruto the Mt. Kenya region’s backing. “I urge President Ruto to address the internal issues and allow us to focus on our mandate to serve the Kenyan people,” Gachagua concluded.
