Parliament has set Tuesday next week to discuss impeachment charges against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula said Gachagua can choose to defend himself during the session or send his legal representative.
Ahead of the hearing, the National Assembly will conduct public participation from all 47 counties on Friday.
“We will hold a morning session on Tuesday October 8, and commence an early afternoon sitting on the same day to consider the special motion. I will also interrupt Wednesday morning sitting and at noon for the briefing of the House on the manner of undertaking public participation,” Wetangula said.
The National Assembly will then give DP Gachagua a chance to be heard in person, through legal representation, or both.

“Noting that the motion will be considered on October 8, I have directed that the Deputy President be notified of his right to appear on the said date from 5pm to 7pm.”
The accusations leveled against Gachagua include violation of Article 10 on the National Values and Principles of Governance on account of his public utterances, which his accusers argue have been inciteful, reckless, inflammatory, and capable of stirring ethnic hatred and balkanization.
Similarly, he is accused of violating articles 147, 148, 174, 186, and 189, which speak to his conduct and responsibility as the principal assistant to the President.
Gachagua is also accused of corrupting and unlawfully acquiring assets using taxpayers’ money.
