A 50-year-old man died after slipping into a 75ft well in his compound on Monday at 2 am at Mukonyo village in Kirinyaga County.

According to the relatives,  Joseph Wachira and his cousin James Munene were going home from a local bar when he told his cousin that the goat he had been looking for had been found dead in his compound.

According to Citizen Digital, Munene insisted they pass in his compound to satisfy him.

Munene said after reaching home, he told his cousin to wait as he looked for a torch, but he decided to go straight to where the dead animal was. Unfortunately, he fell into a 75ft well in the compound.

“After I took my torch and could not see him I only heard him crying for help in my 75 fit well which I had covered with rotten woods,' Munene narrated.

Munene raised the alarm, attracting residents and families. Kirinyaga fire and disaster team were called immediately.

“I wish he waited for me because he did not know the geographical area of my homestead. He slipped and died,” Munene said,

The rescue team, led by John Kiama, arrived immediately and was accompanied by police officers. With the help of the locals, they retrieved the body after an hour.

The body was taken to Kerugoya mortuary.
