Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has extended congratulations to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on his anticipated re-election as the 47th President of the United States, even though the election has not yet been officially declared.

In his statement, Gachagua described Trump’s projected victory as a historic political comeback, praising his resilience and determination. “Congratulations, President Donald Trump, for one of the greatest political comebacks of our generation. Your victory clearly shows that resilience and a ‘never-say-die’ attitude will always TRUMP obstacles on the path to destiny. God Bless You. God Bless America,” Gachagua posted on X.

He joins other leaders in the country who have also expressed their congratulations, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. Musyoka commended Americans for placing their trust in Trump’s leadership and wished him success in his upcoming term. “I extend my congratulations to President-Elect Donald Trump on your election as the 47th President of the United States of America,” Musyoka said. “I wish you every success and look forward to working with you.”

Kalonzo also encouraged Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take inspiration from the U.S. electoral process. He noted, “Over 150 million Americans voted in the historic November 5 election, and the results were counted, tallied, and announced in less than 24 hours. Kenya, especially the IEBC, can learn from the United States about conducting free, fair, and credible elections.”

Although the election results have yet to be formally confirmed, projections indicate Trump has surpassed the 270 electoral vote threshold. World leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as President Emmanuel Macron of France and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, have sent congratulatory messages to Trump.
