Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that the November 28, 2024, attack on him in Limuru was a government-planned assassination attempt.
Speaking during a Sunday service at Bahati Church in Ichamara, Nyeri County, Gachagua accused the government of using Kikuyu youths to create an illusion of intra-community conflict, which he described as a strategy to destabilize the Mt. Kenya region.
Gachagua claimed the attack was part of a broader plan targeting the Mt. Kenya community, beginning with his impeachment. “The government has already manipulated Mt. Kenya leaders to impeach me. Now, they are inciting our youth to spark internal conflict for their political gain,” he stated.
The former Deputy President warned the youth against being exploited as political tools, cautioning that such manipulation could lead to long-term harm to the community. “Do not let yourselves be used to destroy your own people. This is a conflict with unpredictable consequences,” he urged.

Gachagua further alleged he knew those behind the attack and criticized the lack of arrests. “If this wasn’t a government plot, why haven’t the attackers been apprehended? Instead, my allies face harassment to conceal the truth,” he questioned.
He accused the government of exploiting the Mt. Kenya community for political leverage only to abandon them later. Gachagua vowed to take decisive action to restore the region’s honor.
“In January 2025, I will make a major announcement reflecting the will of the Mt. Kenya people. Together, we will reclaim our dignity and resist this betrayal,” he declared.
