A secondary school teacher in Nyamira County is receiving treatment at a hospital in Ikonge after allegedly being assaulted by the school principal for arriving late.
Vincent Onyancha, the victim, recounted that the principal stormed into his classroom while he was teaching, physically attacking him in front of students. "I was slightly late, and while I was conducting my lesson, the principal barged in, slapped and kicked me, then dragged me to his office, where the assault continued," Onyancha stated.
Following the incident, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) strongly condemned the attack, urging the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to take legal action against the principal. Union officials also warned of a teachers’ strike if swift measures are not implemented.
Nyamira County TSC Director Erick Magak confirmed that the case has been reported and assured that an investigation is underway.
