Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on President William Ruto to focus on launching new development projects in the Mount Kenya region instead of taking credit for initiatives started by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This statement comes just ahead of Ruto’s planned five-day tour of the vote-rich region, set to begin on Tuesday. During the visit, the President is expected to commission completed projects, inspect ongoing ones, and unveil new developments in Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang'a, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Kiambu counties.
Gachagua, who was removed from office in October, criticized Ruto for allegedly failing to deliver substantial progress in the region. He accused the President of making false promises and urged Mount Kenya residents to be wary of his statements.
“As you visit this region, be honest with the people. All these projects were initiated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. You have not completed them, and you have not launched any of your own. Do not mislead the people,” Gachagua stated during an impromptu visit to Wangige, Kiambu County.
This visit marks Ruto’s first official trip to the region in nearly six months. His itinerary includes projects across key sectors such as road infrastructure, affordable housing, fresh produce markets, last-mile electricity connectivity, water supply, and irrigation.
