Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja of orchestrating a failed attack during a Sunday service at PCEA Kasarani East Parish.

Gachagua, whose security team thwarted the attempted disruption, directly blamed Ruto for escalating political intimidation to sacred spaces.

Speaking from the church podium, Gachagua criticized the President's alleged use of hired goons to silence him. “I didn’t expect him to go as far as disrupting a church service. What happened to your values, Mr. President?” he questioned. Gachagua further claimed that the Nairobi Governor acted as an enabler in the botched incident.

He also accused police leadership of intentionally holding back security reinforcements during the incident, alleging that only a few plainclothes officers intervened out of goodwill. “We know the Deputy Inspector General ordered police to stand down,” Gachagua said, asserting that the move was politically motivated.

In a bold warning, the former Deputy President suggested that any attempts to politically eliminate him would only intensify resistance. “Even if you eliminate me, nothing will change. The struggle will continue with others,” he affirmed.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu also condemned the disruption, urging immediate legal action against those responsible. “No one should desecrate a church. If Ruto and Sakaja were involved, that’s unacceptable,” Nyutu said.

The tensions between Ruto and Gachagua have grown since the latter’s impeachment in October 2024. Gachagua has since emerged as a vocal government critic and a central figure in Mt. Kenya’s opposition movement.

President Ruto, in a recent vernacular media interview, downplayed the fallout, emphasizing his decades-long relationship with Mt. Kenya residents, calling it unshakable despite recent political friction.
