A horrific fire incident in Sigomre, Siaya County, claimed the lives of nine family members on Tuesday night in what authorities suspect to be an arson attack.

According to reports, a man, his wife, and their seven children were sleeping in their home when unknown individuals allegedly set the house on fire. The devastating blaze left no survivors.

Sylvester Omondi, the family's caretaker, recounted waking up around midnight after detecting a strong smell of petrol. He rushed out only to find the main house engulfed in flames and locked from the outside, making rescue efforts impossible.

Area Assistant Chief Robert Odongo confirmed receiving distress reports around 1:00 a.m. He promptly coordinated with police officers and rushed to the scene, where the house was still burning upon their arrival.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, with preliminary findings pointing to arson. Officials are working to uncover the motive and identify those responsible for the deadly fire.
