Authorities in South Africa have released a report stating that twelve people were killed by the floods caused by the heavy rains experienced in the country. President cyril ramaphosa has declared a state of emergency.
According to the disaster management department, COGTA, The bad weather that will last the rest of the week hit the east, north, and south, killing people in four of South Africa's nine provinces. The famous Kruger national park has been severely affected by the heavy rains that have caused several rivers to swell. The park, a huge tourist attraction, has been forced to restrict movement due to the damage the floods have caused to the roads within the park.
Last year the country experienced the worst flooding in decades, leaving over 400 people dead in urban areas and thousands of others displaced.

In other news, a boating accident has left eight people dead in the democratic republic of congo. The accident happened on lake kivu when a canoe leaving for Idjwi collided with a ferry. Four women and four men aboard the canoe died in the accident.
Mathieu Alimasi Malumni, the transport minister of South Kivu province, confirmed the incident saying that the canoe was overloaded when the accident happened and that all the passengers on board were not wearing life jackets. They recovered the bodies of the deceased on Tuesday.
The ( DRC) democratic republic of congo has one of the worst roads on the continent, forcing many people to use waterways as an alternative means of transportation. However, old and poorly maintained vessels are the primary cause of water accidents.
In 2019 president Felix Tshisekedi declared wearing life jackets mandatory after a boat accident left over a hundred people dead in the south kivu territory. The rule, however, is yet to be implemented by the residents or boat owners.
