Mexican authorities have over 100 children in custody after being found abandoned in a trailer in the eastern Mexican state of Veracruz.
In addition to the 103 children found, authorities discovered 212 adults from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Ecuador in the trailer, according to the National Migration Institute (INM). Another 28 migrants from Guatemala and El Salvador travelling as families were also in the caravan, bringing the total number of passengers to 343.
According to INM, the authorities discovered the caravan on a motorway without a driver. It had fans, a ventilated roof, and a structure that added a second level to the caravan. A photo distributed by INM showed Plastic bottles and other trash found littering across the floor of the long, narrow compartment.
INM said the rescued children would be placed with Veracruz's family services system while the other migrants would be processed to determine their legal status in Mexico.
