According to President William Ruto, the cost of maize flour will be halved starting next week.
In an address delivered on Friday after the Mavoko water supply project in Machakos County was inaugurated, President Ruto assured the populace that the government was working to reduce unga expenses. He also pleaded with the opposition to be patient.
The government had just started importing maize to improve food production. Thus the president predicted that market prices would decrease within the permitted time frame.
“Mtaanza kuona bei mpya kuanzia next week kwa sababu lazima tubalance. We have to make sure the maize we are importing does not hurt our farmers because it is from farmers in other countries," he said.

"The most important is the maize from our farmers here in the country because it is the one which will help us and which we depend on." he added.
He stated that the anti-government protests spearheaded by the led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party would not lower living expenses.
In President Ruto's opinion, the opposition leaders should take a back seat and let him lead the country moving ahead because they were responsible for the current economic suffering by cooperating with the previous administration.
“Hawa watu watu wa kuweka sufuria kwa kichwa wawache kunisumbua, wangoje nipange hii maneno kwa sababu walikuwa na nafasi ya kupanga walishindwa; si ndio walizubaa hadi bei ya unga ikafika Ksh.230? Sasa wawache kutuletea kiingereza mingi,” he stated.
"Sisi na Governor Wavinya wawachane nasi tupange mambo ya maendeleo huku Mavoko." he added
azimio la Umoja coalition leader raila odinga has promised to go back to the streets because bilateral talks between them and the kenya kwanza government are not working. Raila has been championing for the cost of living to go down. The azimio team alleged that the government does not want to discuss the cost of living.
