Fans around the world were shocked by the death of 25-year-old K-pop artist Moon Bin, a member of the popular boy band Astro. Fantagio, Moon Bin's record label, announced his passing on Thursday.


 All Astro members, Fantagio coworkers, executives, and staff who had worked together for a long time are reportedly mourning the departed with tremendous sadness and disbelief, according to the record label.



An officer at Gangnam Police Station said that the star was discovered dead at his residence in southern Seoul by his management at around 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday.


Police in Gangnam told CNN on Thursday that they think Moon Bin committed suicide. On social media, fans shared their sorrow over the celebrity's loss, and the site was inundated with condolences. The most recent incident that has brought attention to the star's usually strong demands in Korea's fiercely competitive and demanding entertainment industry.



The hashtag #moonbin on Twitter was trending globally with over 2.6 million tweets, some posts written in English, Spanish, Indonesian, Tagalog and Thai.


Social media videos, meanwhile, showed Astro's signature colors of white and purple balloons being used to line a wall as a memorial for the late star in Chile.


Saeji, a self-described Moon Bin admirer, stated that it was crucial to recall the young star's accomplishments in addition to the pressures of Korean culture and its celebrity industry.


Many K-pop stars begin their training when they are still in their early teens, refining their acting, singing, and dancing abilities for years before they are even given the opportunity to debut their first song. The extreme strain K-pop idols are known to experience from their stringent management has been connected to an industry-wide mental health epidemic. Among the members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), South Korea has the highest rate of youth suicide. According to South Korea's Health and Welfare Ministry, the country's suicide rate was 26 per 100,000 people in 2021. While the general suicide rate is declining, the number of deaths among persons in their twenties is increasing.

In 2016, Moon Bin made his Astro debut. The group's other members are Yoon San-ha, MJ, Cha Eun-woo, and Jinjin.


He also participated in Moon Bin and Sanha's most recent Asian tour as a musician.


As part of the port city's attempts to promote the 2030 World Expo, the pair was set to perform in Jakarta on May 13 and Busan the following month.


In 2009, Moon Bin made his acting debut as a young child in the Korean Broadcasting System television drama "Boys Over Flowers." Southeast Asians made up a large portion of the series' global viewership after its dub version began airing.


His sister Moon Sua, who performs with the female group Billlie, is also well-known in K-pop.
